Free Myanmar Activities

February 2021

FM was born as an advocacy group to engage decision makers in enacting targeted sanctions against Myanmar military junta's business empire.

March 2021

  • Engaged US State Department: Submitted Report 1 covering MEHL & MEC.

  • Canadian Chapter's report to Global Affair.

  • OFAC of US Treasury added MEHL & MEC to Specially Designated Nationals and Entity list (SDN).

April 2021

  • Submitted Reports 2, 3 & 4 covering Oil & Gas sector, Gems, Mining & Forestry sector and list of Myanmar Military command and its accomplices.

  • Myanmar Pearl and Timber Enterprise added under US sanction list.
     

  • May 2021
    13 individuals from SAC placed under US sanction list.

     

  • Canada &UK - imposed similar sanctions.

May 2021

  • Collaboration & Networking with overseas activists sharing same advocacy and strategic goals.

  • FM Chapters formed in UK, Canada & Australia.
     

  • UK chapter submitted a report to UK Parliaments' Foreign Affairs Hearing Committee 5/2021.

May 2021

  • Support to NUG's Ministry of Planning, Finance & Investment (MOPFI).

  • A boycott Campaign in Myanmar on products and services by junta own businesses.

June 2021

  • FM adapted & realigned organization towards three main strategic objectives. An advisor strategist was brought in.

  1. Interrupt junta's money flow by advocating for targeted & decisive sanctions.
     

  2. Assist in NUG's international recognition.
     

  3. Engage in humanitarian support for Myanmar.

July 2021

  • FM rallied, initiated and campaigned overseas Myanmar professional organizations to come out with a unified voice on Myanmar COVID crisis.
     

  • Released another urgent appeal letter to US leadership.
     

  • Released a statement pointing out junta's usage of COVID-19 as a bioweapon in trying to subdue protests and resistance.

  • 27 organizations from 4 continents endorsed the urgent appeal letter sent to UN and governmental agencies requesting to significantly step up relief efforts in Myanmar.
     

  • VOA broadcasted 3 video segments interviewing FM & public health experts on COVID crisis in Myanmar.

July 2021

  • Engaged WHO's regional office in Myanmar. In collaboration with overseas Myanmar doctors, established PEER (Practice-focused Medical Education for Myanmar) program.

  • PEER program is currently training about 400 Myanmar Healthcare Workers from various sectors through virtual lectures and workshops to build their capacity on practical management of COVID-19 infection.

August 2021

  • Collaborated with other activist groups in Burma Bill campaign movement. Helped signature drive towards local elected officials by grassroot constituents.

  • Representatives of FM attended "Save Myanmar March" on 7 August 2021 in Washington DC delivering its statement. 

August 2021

  • Assists on efforts in sustaining the seat of UN permanent representative of Myanmar, U Kyaw Moe Tun.

  • A FM board member is participating in the advisory committee on the success of ambassador UKMT's recredentialing at UN.

FM is vigilantly & actively seeking out for further engagements with major stakeholders as long as those align with FM's strategic objectives, the ultimate goal being eradication of military dictatorship and creation of a true Federal Democratic Union in Myanmar. Some projects are discreet for now.
